The "Wario Apparition" legend is an urban legend revolving around the 1996 3-D platforming game Super Mario 64.
Description
According to many urban legends, the Wario Apparition is a bizarre, ostensibly sentient entity that reportedly manifests in certain copies of the game. The entity is said to appear as a giant floating head resembling that of recurring Mario character Wario. The most commonly cited spawning location for the apparition is in the hall leading to Dire, Dire Docks and Bowser in the Fire Sea, whereupon he will chase the player down the now-endless hallway. Many legends claim that the entity is somehow sapient and is, in fact, some sort of tulpa (a type of sentient paranormal creature brought into existence by concentrated thoughts). Supposedly, encountering the Wario Apparition can cause physical ailments in players including memory loss, and players are advised to shut off the game if they encounter him to avoid giving him form in our reality.
As with all of the more explicitly supernatural gaming rumors, the Wario Apparition has no basis in reality. The story is generally believed to have started as a creepypasta on the image board 4chan, a common source for rumors like this. All purported video evidence of Wario in the game is the result of mods designed to fool unsuspecting viewers.
