The "Timber 64" legend is an urban legend revolving around the 1997 racing game Diddy Kong Racing.

Description

Although their origin is hard to discern, rumors persisted after the game's release that Timber, a tiger who was one of the game's playable racers, was slated to receive his own video game spin-off on the Nintendo 64. Bumper the badger and Mipsy the mouse were rumored to co-star. This rumor may been concocted due to two other characters from the game, Banjo the bear and Conker the squirrel, received their own spin-off games, Banjo-Kazooie and Conker's Bad Fur Day, respectively.

In a 2012 interview with a (now defunct) website called Not Enough Shaders, several former Rare employees confirmed that no Timber game was ever in development. The closest a Timber game ever got to be developed was an early version of Diddy Kong Racing called Pro-Am 64, a sequel of sorts to the 1988 racing game R.C. Pro-Am. Timber was slated to be the main character of this game, but the game was reworked into Diddy Kong Racing. The setting of the game, Timber Island, could be a nod to Timber once being the protagonist.
