The "Super Yoshi 64" legend is an urban legend revolving around the 1996 3-D platforming game Super Mario 64.

Description

Collecting all of the game's Power Stars unlocks a cannon near the lake outside Princess Peach's castle, which can be used to launch Mario onto the castle's roof. Reaching the castle roof reveals Mario's dinosaur pal Yoshi, along with a large number of extra lives. The fact that Yoshi had been relegated to a mere end-game cameo annoyed many players and rumors began to be spread about how to ride Yoshi in the game.

Once technology advanced sufficiently so as to explore the game's code, hackers found that the game contained a fully textured Yoshi egg (and appropriate hatching animation) exist in the game's files, suggesting that Yoshi was at some point in development going to be rideable. The exact reason for the feature's exclusion is unknown, but it is speculated to have been due to time constraints.
